the years bring back to me
Of brave old Stonewall Jackson
Those brave old heroes passing,
have left us sad and lone.
But soon we'll have their glory,
hewn out in living stone.
Stone Mountain, old Stone Mountain,
We'll have a great memorial
on which our heroes stand.
No greater love or tribute
can Southern hearts display
Until the cherished memories
of those who wore the gray.
They fought in dear old Georgia.
They fought in Tennessee.
They went through old Virginia,
these men of sixty -three.
They fought with southern valor
and bravely faced the fray.
And now upon Stone Mountain
they wear their suit of gray.
I love the dear old mountain
beside the springing fountain
That shines around our heroes
of cherished Southern pride
preserve their glory well
That to our children's children
loved not their lives till death
Whose memory lit a cherry
un til our latest breath you
