The 80s and 90s.
Let me give you a little history
and let you people know.
Across the street from my house
was a club called The Wishtand.
Uncle Chadi and a lot
of other family members owned.
And it was a nightclub
on Randolph Street,
if y 'all can believe it.
It used to be so poppin'
like Harlem nights.
So Randolph was very, very busy.
Norman's Liquor Store
and Fairview Market
was black owned by my peoples.
I used to see a lot of the OGs
looking like gangsters from Chicago with
their suspenders and cigars and hats,
you feel me?
It was fun
So like I said in every
other neighborhood
to hell broke loose
They're doing the drugs, the coke
It got to be to that
point where it got
F
Em
Hectic and hard where we had
to protect ourselves
from other neighborhoods
I mean, I hate to say it, not to glorify it,
but first -generation drive
-by shooter,
you know, gangland representatives
keep it a hundred.
But then the music came,
which was Rhyno, Kootenai,
but you know, when my brother hit that scene,
it was like an earthquake,
it cracked the shit open,
and it evolved.
Dm
A lot of fun , fond memories,
you know what saying,
Em
a lot of bad ones too,
but we still here.
We give grace to God,
and God is Allah,
and we love Him
Dm
Em
and we bless You for Him to go forward.
