I'm going to do another song for you
and then bring up,
start this parade of incredible
people.
Johnny Cash is here tonight.
Johnny Paycheck is here tonight.
Neither of them are here tonight.
I wish they were though.
Here's a song.
Oh yeah,
this song has a prop to it, actually.
Read the letters on the top line.
No, this was lifted,
removed from Tower Records.
This is my section, you know?
My section.
For those of you, it's hard to see,
But I do have a section over there at Tower,
and for years, I mean,
they just stuck my records in
with Jerry Jeff Walkers
and Tom Waits.
I mean, they said, it's a W,
just put it in there. Who's he?
But I've got my own section now.
Unfortunately,
they've misspelled my name,
which happens a lot,
L -O -U -D -E -M.
And Wainwright, they got right.
Now, I've got to tell you,
that's tame compared to the all -time great misspelling of the old Laudo's moniker.
I was playing in this club
in Piermont, New York,
across the river.
Some of you live there, I guess.
And in the paper, in the, you know, the Pyrmont Press,
Star -Ledger, Picayune,
whatever they call that rag over there, they said,
appearing at the turning point,
May 8th, two shows,
Gordondon Wainwright III. Gordondon.
That's not a misspelling,
that's just a different name.
It's a fine Celtic name, Gordondon.
Son of Ethelred. Gordondon.
The only way that anybody could
call anybody Gordon Don
is if mom was a Gordon Lightfoot fan
and dad liked Loudon Wainwright
and they said, let's call him
Gordon Don.
Anyway.
